I am experimenting with Vultr hosting using Coolify to manage services. I mostly like it but I actually haven't figured out how to host this plain ol html portion of the site. I think I have to either learn how to dockerize my files or set up some kind of git repo. I've been using good old fashioned FTP so far and version control to date has been non-existant. This isn't exactly a huge project. Also, my main exposure to git was a previous job's CTO trying to introduce it and the coder team getting into a snit about having to do extra steps and then it was abandoned. It was not a tight ship, what can I say?
I'm in the middle of #weenwatch26 and the end results will be posted to movies when it's all done.
The September archive is available.
I have added Rybbit analytics to just this page of the site. It adds no cookies, doesn't phone home to anyone but me, doesn't track IP addresses, and adds very little overhead to the page. This will allow me to test the service and get some idea of traffic to this page. It may be added sitewide at a later time. I'm not running any kind of content management system. It's just raw pages, so any time I make a site-wide decision I have to make a choice to touch all pages or not. There have been no scripts (except a couple of youtube embeds that honestly didn't last) on the site until now.
Overall I am enjoying Coolify but the documentation is very much a "finish drawing the owl" sort of affair. I recommend checking this thread if you get the urge to set up Rybbit using Coolify, because I absolutely needed this info to finish my setup. I'll summarize because we all know that forum decay is real. You must set up the main Rybbit with port 3002 and the back end with port 3001. You have to set your chosen domain for both parts, and the backend needs /api in the path. You have to disable "strip prefixes" on the backend portion in the main settings not the domain settings. As of Coolify version 4.4.3 this was a fairly unguided process. The only domain prompting during setup I got was for the main portion. Once I got through that, creating an account and adding this site took a minute or two.
Coming up: More movies on the list, and a "have physical media" column.
